For Sex and the City fans, few storylines have been as fraught as Charlotte York’s marriage to Trey MacDougal. The couple’s unhappy union, marred by tension and incompatibility, famously ended in divorce – paving the way for Charlotte’s true love story with Harry Goldenblatt, the devoted lawyer who would become her second husband. Harry, played by Evan Handler, remains a beloved character in both the original series and the spin-off And Just Like That.

But what about Trey? Could Charlotte and her ex-husband be on the path to rekindling something? Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte, recently dropped some hints – but also made it clear that any reunion isn’t straightforward.
In a recent episode of her podcast Are You a Charlotte?, Davis opened up about a potential And Just Like That storyline involving Trey, played by Kyle MacLachlan. While the idea of a reunion was floated behind the scenes, it was ultimately scrapped, with MacLachlan himself choosing not to return. Davis revealed she understood his decision, suggesting it wouldn’t have served the story or Charlotte’s growth well.

Davis also reminisced about one particular Sex and the City storyline she famously disliked – the infamous food poisoning episode in season six where Charlotte and Harry endure a disastrous night involving French cheese and shared bathroom misery. “I just hated that storyline so much,” she confessed, adding that she even challenged the writers about it.
Fans on Instagram have weighed in on the idea of Trey returning, with many agreeing he simply wasn’t the right match for Charlotte. “Harry caters to his woman, he’s faithful, and he gave Charlotte the marriage she was looking for,” one wrote. Another noted, “Trey wasn’t a fit, but I loved Charlotte being so assertive with his stuck-up mother.”
Still, some fans think it would be interesting for Trey to ‘run into’ Charlotte and witness how well she’s doing with Harry, suggesting he’d genuinely be happy for her. Others maintain that Charlotte and Harry remain the perfect couple, having built a life full of love, trust, and family – something Trey never provided.
The verdict? Charlotte’s heart clearly belongs with Harry.
